Adam Wsiolkowski

Adam Wsiołkowski was born in 1949 in Krakow. He studied at the Department of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts, receiving a diploma with distinction and a medal in 1973. In the same year Wsiołkowski began teaching at the Academy. In 1992 he received the title of professor. Adam Wsiołkowski currently runs a painting workshop. Since 1996 to 2002 he was a Dean of the Department of Painting, since 2005 he is a vice-rector of Academy.

Adam Wsiołkowski is the author of the following cycles of paintings: "Trap" (since 1972), "Phenomenon" (since 1974), "Unknown City" (since 1974) and "Presence" (since 1984). In 1984 he designed the colour scheme of the facade for Dolna Odra power plant. Adam Wsiołkowski's works have been presented at more then 150 exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has had 50 individual exhibitions, in Kraków, Warszawa, Poznań, Wrocław, Berlin, Nuremberg, New York, Prague, Paris and other cities. The artist's paintings, sketches and posters have won more than 20 awards at various competitions. In 1991 Adam Wsiołkowski received the Minister of Culture's award for outstanding artistic and didactic achievements. In 1981/82 Adam Wsiołkowski visited the USA on a 6-month scholarship from the Kosciuszko Foundation; during his stay he won another scholarship from the Ford and Rockefeller Foundation.

Adam Wsiołkowski's works are exhibited in many museums, e.g., the National Museums in Kraków, Warsaw, Poznań and Kielce; District Museums in Tarnów and Chełm, the Wyczółkowski Museum in Bydgoszcz and the Poster Museum in Wilanów. They can also be found in Pomeranian Philharmonic Hall in Bydgoszcz, the Bank Przemysłowo-Handlowy in Kraków, BWA Galleries in Poznań, Sieradz and Białystok, the New York Public Library, the Polish Institute of Arts and Science, the Kościuszko Foundation in New York and in numerous private collections in Poland and abroad.
