Başak Avcı

Başak Avcı (1975) is a Turkish artist who works and lives in Istanbul. Graduated in Painting from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul and gave her master thesis on ‘Painting as a means -langáge-  in between the self and the reality’ at 2005. Since her graduation she joined group of art exhibitions in the country & abroad and she has explored several mediums like video and phootography. For the last few years, she has been working on the drawing material relative to photographic residues: She approaches photography as an unconscious narrative tool and content. For the artist, paintings recreated from photographs are some kinds of memory filter. Başak Avcı shows us dialectic images in an integrated process: The fragmentation of the visual tales as well as the iconic material creates ruptures, scattering, tensions and mysterious crumbling narratives.

Currently, Instructor in ‘Drawing’ lesson in Istanbul Technical University and still studying a PhD in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul.
